Star Citizen crowdfunding campaign hits $31 million
Star Citizen crowdfunding is hitting its goals one after another, reaching the $31 million mark as of today.
To celebrate the milestone, chairman Chris Roberts has released a letter detailing the newly unlocked RSI Orion mining platform boasting of a high-grade turret-mounted tractor beam and durable mineral storage space.
As if proving naysayers wrong, the pace of pledges for the space simulation virtual game seems to be picking up rather than slowing down as time goes on. It was only four days ago when the crowdfunding mark hit the $29 million mark, then a day after that $30 million, and yesterday it reached the $31 million mark.
Players can pledge by purchasing a variety of packages and add-ons, which come with respective ships and features, starting with the $30 Digital Scout up to the premium $275 Rear Admiral.
Star Citizen has been breezing through its crowdfunding targets to the point that only two more stretch goals remain listed on the website.
There's the $32 million stretch goal which unlocks the Aegis Surveyor salvage ship that specializes in deep space wrecks. While at $33 million, developers will unlock the Anvil Carrack, described as the "vanguard of every UEE exploration effort in recent years" and is ideal for long-duration flights and pathfinding missions.
Each of the ships unlocked per milestone is decided by the gamers through a voting process
At the rate the pledges are going, the much-anticipated and hyped MMORPG should be rolling out higher stretch goals soon and we wouldn't be surprised to see them aiming for $40 million or even $50 million by the end of the year.
