Minecraft tops PS3 charts
It’s hard to tell for sure, but it’s starting to look like Notch’s masterpiece, Minecraft will never run out of steam.
The voxel oriented virtual world first announced itself to alpha testers in 2009 and four and a half years later, it’s still topping the charts and decimating triple-A giants left, right and center.
With versions already doing the rounds on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox 360 and life-hacking powerhouse, Raspberry Pi, the miney, crafty mmo finally made its way to the PlayStation 3 last month, and everyone was pretty certain it would do well.
What people weren’t expecting; was to see Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition leading the download charts entirely, upon launch. With the likes of Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag and the ever-popular GTA V all launching of late and breaking records, it’s astonishing to see so many players reaching out to play this soon-to-be classic adventure game.
Minecraft also topped the PS3’s DLC charts with the Minecraft Festive Skin Pack, ahead of the Walking Dead 2 Season Pass and the recent Call of Duty and Battlefield add-ons.
Minecraft has sold over 33 million copies across PC, Xbox 360 and smartphone, and is set to expand onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PlayStation Vita in the near future. If current trends are anything to go by, presumably the PlayStation 3 version, and the next-gen ports will be able to accrue another 10 million sales each too…will this sandbox sensation ever be stopped?
