Wurm Online initiates a bounty hunt against DDOS attackers
This week, the Wurm Online forums have been sheerly electric with excitement over update 1.2, which promised a plethora of new content.
Fans of the unique mmorpg were expecting to see new modes of transport, new user interfaces, new enemies, a smarter map system and so much more.
Sadly, the update didn't get a chance to hit the ground running, and was instantly crippled by a fatal DDOS attack from a hacker, whom presently remains anonymous.
DDOS attacks in mmo gaming have become more and more frequent of late, with the likes of DerpTrolling making the entire event a spectacle; almost a form of entertainment.
The Code Club are changing tact, however, and have decided to fight back by initiating a bounty hunt against the Wurm Online DDOS attacker.
"We can offer 10 000 Euro for any tips or evidence leading to a conviction of the person responsible for this attack", announced Rolf Janson, co-creator of Wurm Online.
The servers are now back up and running, with minimal damage, and the team have taken the time offline to push for a move to a more capable and more secure server; something that they were already planning, ironically, prior to the attack. It seems that the attack may have advanced the process, meaning better, more consistent performance for everyone in the near future, and for some lucky bounty hunters; a 10,000 Euro purse to boot!
