World of Warcraft announces fifth expansion, Warlords of Draenor
Get ready because we're traveling back in time to the home world of the Draenei in World of Warcraft's fifth expansion, Warlords of Draenor.
Blizzard has unveiled its next installment to its flagship online rpg at BlizzCon, and revealed a bit about the plot line. Players will venture into ancient Draenor during the height of conflict between the draenei and the savage orc clans. Depending on your faction, you will try to repel or aid the likes of Grommash Hellscream, Blackhand, and Ner’zhul as they try to conquer Draenor.
It's a heroic blast from the past for all you older MMORPG veterans who will remember these iconic characters in the earlier Warcraft strategy rpg series.
Warlords of Draenor also promises some pretty radical features, like the option to instantly increase your character, even a freshly made one, to 90. This should convince a lot of new players who are just discovering World of Warcraft now to jump into the game and not have to go through that long level grind just to play the new expansion's endgame content.
Other features include:
- Create your own Garrison, an expandable, customizable stronghold that acts as a personal base in Draenor. You can recruit NPCs to eventually populate it and talk to them to trigger quests
- Fully revamped player character models and animations for older World of Warcraft races like the orcs and humans, making them look visually at-par with the more recently released races like the Goblins and Worgen
- New level cap of 100
- Loads of new zones, dungeons, raids, scenarios, battlegrounds, and more
- Questing improvements "designed to encourage exploration and add unpredictability to players’ ongoing adventures"
No set release date yet, but with the expansion already unveiled, it could launch sometime in 2014.
