World of Warcraft To Launch Mists of Pandaria on September 25
Blizzard will release the newest World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria, two months from now on September 25. In its official launch announcement, the developer also unveiled a pre-purchase program for the expansion, which introduces a new playable Pandaren race, a kung-fu fighting Monk class, among other content and features.
Pre-purchasing either the $40 Standard Edition or the $60 Digital Delux Edition will allow World of Warcraft players to pre-download the game before the expansion launches, so that instead of spending most of launch day staring at a download timer, they can jump right in when the updated content goes live.
Standard Edition owners also get the benefit of upgrade-later option. “If you snag the standard edition now and decide you want to upgrade to Digital Delux later, you’ll have the opportunity to do so for an additional $20.”
Mists of Pandaria is the fourth expansion for the long-running MMORPG, and should bump up subscriber numbers like the previous three. Despite its sinking subscriber numbers in recent months, its multi-million playerbase still eclipses most free online rpg games due to its compelling content and broad theme park appeal, and Mists of Pandaria seems to expand even more with a new race, class, continent area, fresh dungeons, raids, a time dungeon Challenge mode and a Pokemon-like pet battle system.
