Torchlight 2 is an action online RPG game from Runic Games released in 2012. It is the sequel to the surprise smash hit of 2009, Torchlight, which wowed gamers with its breezy battle system that positively compared to the Diablo game series. Torchlight 2 is set years after the original game when a corrupted villain seeks to disrupt the careful elemental balance that keeps the world in order. Choosing from between four all-new playable characters, Torchlight 2 players will have to fight through three sprawling Acts, each Act taking place in a distinct location. Playable classes include the melee smasher Engineer, who plays like the Railman class in the original game; the gunslinger hybrid Outlander; the spellcaster specialist Embermage; and the furiously aggressive Berserker. Other character creation options allow you to pick the gender, face, and hair style of your avatar.
Torchlight 2 focuses on a single-player campaign where each character will have to fight through areas and dungeons filled with enemies to gain experience and powerful loot gear. Random maps are generated each time a character ventures outside the town, allowing for high replay value. Torchlight 2 has a more lighthearted look and feel, with its cartoony visuals, bright-colored environments and heroic fantasy storyline. The sequel also unlocks a new game plus mode once the main campaign is finished. Torchlight 2's new game plus mode offers a greater challenge, similar to the Nightmare, Hell and Inferno advanced difficulty modes of the Diablo series.
The campaign in Torchlight 2 takes longer to complete the original, and the sequel boasts additional features not found in its predecessor. New features include multiple town hubs, day-and-night cycles and weather effects that add to existing features such as pets and fishing. Pets continue their role as companions and essential couriers for selling and purchasing items back in town. Torchlight 2 also has better support for co-op multiplayer modes, addressing the lack of team play in the first Torchlight game. In Torchlight 2, players can now choose to team up via remote internet or via LAN to complete the campaign mode. Torchlight 2 groups can also run player-made content created through TorchED, an editor program built into the game. Mob difficulty scales depending on how many people fighting together in the vicinity, which means characters can easily split up or re-group without fearing a quick death. As a reward though for tackling Torchlight 2 content together, each team member receives their own special loot drops, which helps avoid any nasty squabbling for items.
