The Old Republic introduces Space Combat
Sith and Jedi take to the skies in the Star Wars: The Old Republic update. The new update, Galactic Starfighter, features 12 versus 12 dogfights in space, which will earn experience for your character, back on the ground. With a choice of customizable Starfighters, multiple play modes and different battle roles, such as Gunship and Scout, this digital expansion adds a whole new depth to the MMORPG.
The new features are PvP only, and the PvE space combat sadly seems to have been left at the wayside, in order to focus on Galactic Starfighters development. Bioware revealed their intentions on the official website;
“Galactic Starfighter will be a deep experience that will continue to grow over time. We can’t wait for both our current and new players to get their hands on it soon.”
Depending on your player status in the MMO, the game will be available, to differing degrees, and with differing launch dates:
1. Full subscribers to Star Wars: The Old Republic will receive the update from December 3rd and will get unrestricted Starfighter progression, complete with exclusive paint jobs, flight suits and pilot titles.
2. "Preferred" status players will receive the update from January 14th, with the additional flight suits and one of the pilot titles. Preferred status-holders are players who are either ex-subscribers or players who have purchased items from the online store.
3. Lastly, the free-to-play gamers will get the update without early access, on the public launch date of February 4th.
If your status changes at any point, up until the launch on Feruary 4th, you will receive the update to the extent of your new entitlement.
