Star Wars: The Old Republic's The Dread War breaks out October 1
Date confirmed for Star Wars: The Old Republic 2.4 update: The Dread War also known as the patch that pours extra awesome sauce to PvP.
The BioWare MMORPG is getting new pulse-pounding 4v4 PvP warzone arenas on October 1. Unlike larger PvP maps where the action is large and often impersonal -- you just shoot at the nearest available target -- arenas offer more intense combat and decision-making.
"The Arenas are small, intimate, and places the focus on skill-based player-versus-player combat. Here, teams of four will battle against each other in a best-of-three deathmatch and compete for glory, credits, and more," said BioWare.
These new Arenas of Death, courtesy of the ruthless Giradda the Hutt, are located on Makeb, Tatooine and the Orbital Station.
The upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic update also opens up fearsome new level 55 operations, The Dread Fortress and The Dread Palace.
Dread is just one of those words that sounds ominously bleak, so it was only proper for the bosses in these operations to live up to the name -- we hear the difficulty in these operations have been cranked up to ruin your day with a wipe.
Impatient online rpg fans grumbling again that this new patch will take a boatload of time to download can take a breather. BioWare said it has already implemented BitRaider streaming to get players into the new patch faster with a "dramatically smaller" initial download.
