Red Alert! Star Trek Online Revamping Space Combat
If you ask most players of what they like best in Star Trek Online, they'll often tell you that it's the space combat. The sci-fi mmorpg has an amazing system of ship combat within the icy depths of space. However, the game is now over seven years old, and Cryptic has decided that it's time to have a Star Trek Online space combat revamp. A slew of changes are coming in an effort to make this feature even more fun for players.
A developer blog post goes into some detail on the proposed Star Trek Online space combat revamp. The overall goals for this revamp are:
Increase the fun – Games are about having fun, and players should not be made to feel that their fun is “wrong.”
Player investment retains value – While things need to be adjusted, a setup that was optimized before should still be useful and effective afterwards.
Choices should be meaningful – Anywhere the game gives you a choice, there should be no choice that you always take nor one you never take.
Some of the proposed changes to the STO space combat will impact carrier pets, weapons, and careers. The mmo is looking to make carrier pets more useful by upgrading their AI, increasing their health and damage, and being immune to a single torpedo every 30 seconds. One of the changes for weapons is that targetable torpedoes will now fly faster so as to make them feel less sluggish. As for careers, the emphasis is on making Engineering and Science captains more effective.
What do you think about the upcoming revamp to STO space combat? Do you like the proposed changes or do you think the system is fine the way it is? Let us know in the comments below.
