New devblog tries to teach new players what Dilithium is, how it can be earned and where to spend it across the space online rpg.

With the launch of Season 5: Call to Arms, Dilithium will be the primary currency for purchasing in-game items in Star Trek Online, including ground and ship gear, starships, select Duty Officers and crafting materials. It can also be spent to begin some Duty Officer Assignments. The recent release of Seasons 6 and 7 further expanded Dilithium in Starbase and Embassy Fleet Projects.

Star Trek Online players can earn Dilithium Ore by completing in-game missions such as PvE and PvP dailies, events, STFs, and Duty Officer Assignments, among others. Miners can also gather Dilithium ore once a day on the Vlugta Asteroid Field, near Deep Space Nine, in the Beta Ursae Sector Block.

Of course, Dilithium Ore will require some refining before it can be spent as Dilithium currency. Players will be allowed to refine up to 8,000 Dilithium Ore per day, with veteran subscribers and gold members having special perks that allows for extra ore mining and automated refining, respectively.

The new Dilithium currency can also be acquired through marketplace trading with Zen, the cash shop currency in the free mmo.
