Star Trek Online's next expansion slated for late 2014
In his yearend address to fans, Star Trek Online community manager Brandon Felczer confirmed that 2014 will bring on a new expansion.
He said the Star Trek Online 2014 expansion is scheduled for release "late in 2014" and that so far "planning is in the early stages, so there is not much to share just yet."
This will also be the second expansion for the sci-fi MMORPG following Legacy of Romulus, which introduced the Romulans as a playable race.
Felczer said Legacy of Romulus was "fantastically" successful in terms of attracting new players and keeping players logging in -- enough for him to claim that 2013 was the best year ever for the free online rpg.
With the success of Legacy of Romulus, it's easy to tell that they might be considering adding another playable race with the new expansion.
The Star Trek Online franchise and lore is rife with alien races that could prove just as popular when brought in as controllable characters in the game.
Before the expansion is released though, fans can amuse themselves with two of the upcoming events -- its fourth anniversary celebration and release of the Season 9 update.
"We won’t give too much away just yet, but we can hint that the Delta Quadrant, as explored in Star Trek: Voyager, will be taking a larger role in the coming year," said Felczer as a teaser.
