Fantasy meets strategy in SolForge, the free mmo tcg by Stone Blade Entertainment. Created by the people who brought you Ascension and Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic: The Gathering, SolForge brings the depth and strategy of trading card games with the convenience of online and mobile gaming. Set in the harsh world of Solis, four factions are fighting over control of the dwindling resources. In the midst of the cold lands stands the SolForge, the source of magic, heat, and light. Players take on the role of a Forgeborn, those blessed few who can harness and wield the powers of the SolForge and hone their abilities by battling one another.
Players can choose to explore the world of Solis in a single-player campaign or face other players in battle. Each player collects cards which are used to build a deck. The cards found in the deck are composed of either monsters, spells, or structures. Monsters are used to attack your opponent and to defend. Spells are magic effects that are done immediately when they are played and then discarded. Structures are places such as fortifications, buildings, or circles of power that are played to hurt your opponent and to aid yourself and your allies.
The aim of every battle in this free mmo tcg is to reduce your opponent's health to zero from one hundred. All of the action in SolForge takes place on the Field, which is composed of two rows of five columns, known as lanes. A player can only have one creature and one structure in each lane. Creatures fight against creatures facing them within the same lane. Every turn, each player will draw five cards and play two of them. At the end of the turn, all of the cards in a player's hand with go to the discard pile. Each player on his turn has to hit the Battle Button, which causes every creature that is on the offensive to fight, causing damage to one another. If a lane has no creature defending it, then the damage done by the attacking creature hits the defending player and reduces his health.
SolForge adds a unique twist in that the cards transform as the game progresses. When the game begins, all the cards are considered level one. When a player plays a card, that card levels up. That specific copy of the card is removed from the deck and replaced with the higher level version of the card. The players' avatar levels every four turns, and when that happens, the discards are reshuffled back into the deck, allowing the player to draw the higher level cards. A higher level card in SolForge can be a more powerful version of the lower level card or it can have totally different aspects of play.
