Delve into adventure with Sherwood Dungeon, the browser-based free mmorpg developed by Maid Marian Entertainment. Explore a virtual fantasy world created by a single person, Gene Endrody. Players quest across various themed islands and venture deep into the game's dungeon for precious treasure and loot.
Sherwood Dungeon is a throwback to a simpler time of gaming. This mmorpg is incredibly easy to get into and start playing. Players do not even have to create an account to begin playing. All one has to do is simply choose a username and log in to start their adventure. However, it does behoove players to create an account as those who log in with an account do not have a level cap and have access to the friends system.
There are no classes in Sherwood Dungeon. As the game begins, the player chooses his appearance from one of six different avatars ranging from two men, two women, a warrior with a closed helm, and a skeleton. Customization is limited to some hair choices and colors. The player also chooses which color team he wishes to be on. This color choice is important for PvP as players can engage in PvP anywhere in the world. Players are free to attack other players who are of a different color. The caveat is that you cannot be hurt by a player attacking you unless you return their attack. If you wish to change your appearance or your team color, you can do so at any time while you're playing.
Questing and combat are the centerpieces of Sherwood Dungeon. Players will pick up quests and usually run out to kill creatures to fulfill them. Quests are designed to pull the player from one npc to another, allowing them to explore the game's world. The browser-based world is composed of different islands that the player can instantly teleport to. There is also a dungeon of near-infinite levels where players can go to gather rich loot by searching chests and barrels.
Combat is action based in Sherwood Dungeon and good players will learn the moves of the creatures to fight them more efficiently. Players have a basic swing and a block maneuver. As the character gains levels, more attacks are unlocked and become automatically available for use. There is no hotbar in the UI or any auto-attacking. Players will have to press "1" for the basic swing and "4" for roundhouse kick when they get it. Creatures are the same level as the character (except in the dungeon where the character's level determines how far down they can go in the dungeon) so you'll need to keep on your toes to stay alive and keep their equipment up to date. Players can expect to die often, but there's no death penalty. You'll just respawn back at the starting area of the location you died in.
Sherwood Dungeon harkens back to when gamers wanted to just do some quests and venture deep into a dungeon to kill some monsters and score some treasure. This browser-based mmo is fully 3D and is free to play. The only costs are if you choose to buy a pet or mount, which costs a mere $5 a year to have.
