Actual real life soccer physics meets online gaming in Real Soccer, the sports mmo developed by Neovian. Players take on the role of an individual soccer player in this Korean import as they battle to see who can dominate the pitch. Realism is the name of the game and the developers have worked hard to recreate conditions and situations that could really occur in a real soccer game.
The central feature of Real Soccer is the realistic gameplay. Using a patented mouse system (along with some keyboard options), the player can perform many real life maneuvers within the game. Basic running is done wit the holding the right mouse button down and adding the shift key to the equation makes the player run faster. While many players are used to many keyboard options and a couple of mouse options, Neovian decided that a mouse-heavy system was the better choice. DongGoon Jeon, the CEO of Neovian, said, “It is pretty hard to run or kick the ball to where you really want it to go precisely with the keyboard-based control. I believe providing a control system that players really want is to procure the real popularity.”
Using the mouse for basic movement in Real Soccer, players can run, dribble, pass, kick and run, shoot, high ball, tackle, do headers, move the camera, and more. Players can also take on the ultimate defensive role by playing the goalkeeper. Some of the various actions that a goalkeeper can do is catch the ball, block, dive, and do clearance. To further add wrinkles to on-the-pitch matches, players acquire special skills (both passive and active) that can be used to bolster their gameplay.
As the player undergoes more matches, he will level up. Each player in Real Soccer has stats, which are averaged to determine the level. Playing matches adds a percentage to those stats, which will then cause the player to level up when they hit the requisite number. When a player reaches level fifteen, they can specialize in a specific role on the soccer field. When that player is in the correct position on the pitch, he gets a bonus. Those players who choose to play a position outside their specialized role receive a penalty.
Players can choose to play solo or multiplayer in this free to play mmo. Up to 22 people can play at the same time (11 per team). Players can form clubs and engage in matches with other clubs and also play in tournaments. If a club wants to get some practice in, they can set up a password-protected match to hone their skills. The appearance of individual players is also customizable so you can give your on-screen alter-ego a unique look. Players can also check out other games while playing their own using View Mode to make sure they catch all the action. All in all, soccer fans will get a blast out of Real Soccer.
