Ragnarok Online 2 open beta re-scheduled on January 3, 2013
Ragnarok Online 2 fans will have to wait a little bit longer to enter the English server as developers asked for more time to prepare for the “overwhelming” server demand.
Ragnarok Online 2 is a visually upgraded sequel to Ragnarok, which at one point was among the most popular rpg games online internationally.
The highly anticipated sequel to the original Ragnarok was set to open its first English server on December 27. But developers underestimated the number of fans wanting to get in on the action, resulting in crippling server loads that forced the open beta delay.
“Due to overwhelming response from players, we experienced staggeringly high traffic that resulted in sever website and server congestion. We have been listening intently to all your feedback and are committed to resolving all these issues to get the game back up and running smoothly. However, in order for us to do this, we have to reschedule Open Beta to 3rd January 2013 and we have to wipe all character date accumulated from 27th December 2012 to 3rd January 2012, before the game servers reopen for a fresh start,” said Sherman Tan, Chairman of Asiasoft Online and PlayPark, who are handling the release for the free online rpg, in an apologetic email.
Tan said that Ragnarok Online 2 servers will be open “sporadically” until January 3 as the developers perform occasional stress tests. Players are encouraged to participate in these stress tests despite the guaranteed character wipe.
“Even though the data will be wiped, you will be playing an important part of supporting and helping us prepare Open Beta by joining these stress tests when you are able to.”
