Origins of Malu is a sandbox MMORPG developed by Burning Dog Media and set on the planet Malu that orbits a dying star. Players choose one of three different races, each with their own unique beliefs and traits, and then set off to adventure in a richly detailed sci-fi/fantasy world that is truly open to change.
The landscape of Origins of Malu is ever-changing as players make their mark upon the world. This game is truly sandbox in style. There are no set classes to choose from. Players have the freedom to choose different specializations to suit their preferred gameplay style. The boss creatures found in Origins of Malu adapt to player tactics to become tougher opponents, so players will need to devise new strategies over time to defeat them. Players can create or join factions and control swathes of territory, but that control is always in danger of being usurped by other players or intra-faction struggles. There are no PvE or PvP only servers. It will be up to the players to decide on how their particular server will function.
Players can also make their mark upon the world of Malu with character housing that exists physically in the ever-evolving game world. The player housing system is open-ended to allow players the freedom to create the housing they want. Players can band together to build thriving cities. Faction-controlled territory is vital as that once you leave your faction's territory, you're fair game for rival factions! Players who forsake their faction will become hunted deserters by all factions but will gain unique rewards such as being able to take on bounties. For those who are especially daring, you can settle a grudge against another player to a fight to the death; the loser loses his character forever!
Crafting has a great deal of variety in Origins of Malu. While the formula for creating items remains the same, the various ingredients have their own unique traits that will impact the quality of the created item. Players will need to experiment to figure out the multiple outcomes possible for each type of crafted item. Crafters will be able to create almost anything in Origins of Malu. Crafting is vital in that many professions will have need of the services of a skilled crafter, and factions will need crafters to help upkeep the lands that they control, lest they wither and fall into ruin.
Origins of Malu is definitely not your typical cookie-cutter MMO RPG. Quests are designed to pull you deep into the world of Malu with a dynamic quest system as opposed to the standard, "kill 10 boars in the woods." Origins of Malu harkens back to the sandbox games of before and offers players the freedom to play what they want, how they want. You want to be a crafter? You can. Choose to ignore crafting altogether? That's fine too. Concentrate on PvP and get involved in faction politics? That's great. Choose to concentrate on exploration and be a lone wolf? It's totally up to you. It's a big sandbox out there.
