Instead of reading a lengthy but oh-so-boring backstory novella, Marvel Heroes has instead released two fully voiced motion comics.

Titled “The Chronicles of Doom,” the four-part prequel series is halfway done in revealing what Dr. Doom has been up to leading to the events of the Marvel Heroes MMORPG, which officially launches on June 4. These well-drawn and voice-acted comics also feature cameos of the heroes that will be popping up in the soon-to-launch free online rpg. (The Hulk in particular throws out a few funny zingers.)

Part 1 – written by Brian Michael Bendis, penciled by Lee Garbett and inked/colored by Chris Sotomayor – reveals Dr. Doom’s brutal assault on the Fantastic Four. Adding insult to injury is that he struck them at their own headquarters, sending out a strong message that even the mightiest heroes in their mightiest citadel will not be safe against his wrath.

Meanwhile, Part 2 -- written by Brian Michael Bendis, penciled by Ron Lim and inked/colored by Chris Sotomayor – presents a more mysterious dilemma for the resident heroes. How did Dr. Doom obtain a Cosmic Cube and what does he plan to do with it?

The conclusive Parts 3 and 4 should be able to shed more light into this conundrum, so watch out for those.
