Blizzard delay Hearthstone open beta
The Hearthstone team have, wuthout a doubt, experienced one of the most successful beta tests in the mmo games community in 2013. We've already seen the first Hearthstone competitive tournament at Blizzcon, enough Youtube coverage, tutorials and pro-matchups to last a lifetime, and so many closed beta key giveaways that it's hard to imagine that anyone out there is still Hearthstone-less; not a single member of the gang at mmo-play doesn't have it, pride of place at the bottom of their battle.net bar!
It's safe to say that the closed beta has been running swimmingly for fans of the competitive card rpg, despite the recent troubles on the European servers. However, Blizzard seem to think differently. In a blog from the developers this week, Jason Chayes has sadly announced that the open beta is no longer landing in 2013.
"There are still a few things that have come up that we want to fix before we leave the closed beta phase", the blog announced, stating January 2014 as a more realistic transition date, "the development team has been working hard to get this out before the end of the year, but our highest priority is that Hearthstone has an awesome launch when all gates are lifted and everyone can download it and play at the same time."
The Hearthstone open beta delay is a big upset for fans keen to get their hands on the World of Warcraft inspired card game, but as fans of Magic and Duel of Champions will attest; balance is key in CCGs, so you can't be angry at Blizzard for wanting perfection.
