MMO Hall of Fame inducts 5 new titles, including Guild Wars and LOTRO
It's that time of the year again when gaming industry bigwigs vote on which games deserve to enter the prestigious MMO Hall of Fame. This year, 10 people from within the gaming industry ranging from creators to CEOs to columnists cast their votes among the nominated games.
After all the votes have been cast, 5 new mmo games garnered the minimum 60% of votes to qualify.
The MMO Hall of Fame 2014 inductees are (in order of highest votes):
- Guild Wars (released in 2005) garnering 90% of votes
- Star Wars Galaxies (released in 2003) with 80% votes,
- PlanetSide (released in 2003) with 70% of votes, - Lord of the Rings Online (released in 2007) with 70% of votes, and
- Wizard101 (released in 2008) just making it in with 60% of votes.
"All of these games were selected based on their major contributions to the MMO gaming industry as well as to the millions of fans who have enjoyed them over the years," said the panelists.
“Guild Wars missed being a unanimous selection by one vote, but it is certainly very deserving of being in the MMO Hall of Fame,” said Doug Kale, Marketing Director of the MMO Hall of Fame.
Among the new inductees, the casual card online rpg Wizard101 was the nominated for the first time this year but managed to garner enough support -- a notable feat given that other top games like Age of Conan and Warhammer Online failed to get enough votes.
