Galactic Civilizations 3 alpha lifts off on Steam
The battle for space supremacy begins anew with the launch of the Galactic Civilizations 3 alpha. But sadly, unless you're a Founder's Elite Edition owner, you won't be able to participate in this maiden public test.
It's important to note that this is the first playable version of Galactic Civilizations 3 and will enable play for four of the eight announced races (Drengin, Terran, Altarian and the new Iridium) but will only allow for conquest victory and first tech era.
Stardock was also kind enough to release this Galactic Civilizations 3 alpha walkthrough video, which gives a short glimpse of how the game is developing so far and highlights new features that are being added from the previous installments.
It's a short consolation for turn-based strategy rpg aficionados that will be waiting in agony until next year when this "threequel" officially launches.
The alpha access is part of the privilege for purchasing the Founder's Elite Edition, and will give access to single player mode versus the AI and multiplayer mode versus human opponents.
Stardock also confirmed that the alpha version will start running the newly implemented ideology system, which grants unique benefits to players based on their chosen ideology path, namely merciless, benevolent, or pragmatic.
There's also the new economic system to check out that should prove extra useful for micromanaging your galactic empire. The system allows players to have "intuitive, visual control over the overall production of their empire."
But similar to other mmo alpha releases, it will not carry several important features like diplomacy, combat viewer and ship designer.
