Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Early Launch Servers Overly Crowded
MMORPG launches are hardly ever smooth affairs, and this is why games like Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the rebuilt version of 2010's Final fantasy MMO, have extensive beta periods and early access events. Of course, even with all this preparation, it's hard to plan for just how bogged down game servers can become at launch.
A Realm Reborn just yesterday kicked off its Early Launch Event, in which players who preordered the game can get a head start over the procrastinators who didn't.
But many of those players can't get into the game, as Square Enix keeps bringing down the North American/European servers for maintenance. And even when those servers are live, there are limitations on the amount of logins. It's all to be expected -- early launches are, after all, good pre-launch stress tests for the servers -- but some fans can't help but be disappointed. Some have even taken to various forums to complain about the issues.
Still, this is all par for the course for an MMO as popular as A Realm Reborn, and we hope the issues are mostly ironed out by the game's official August 27 launch. From personal experience, we must say that when the servers are up and running, this is a beautiful game world you don't want to miss out on.
