Final Fantasy XI Turns 11, Celebrates with Free Stuff

Final Fantasy XI Turns 11

Final Fantasy XI, the first MMORPG in the popular Final Fantasy RPG series, is celebrating its eleventh anniversary, which might be a strange anniversary to get stoked over for any game without an 11 in the title. Then again, it's pretty rare for an MMO to last into the double digits, so good for you, Final Fantasy XI!

To celebrate, Square Enix is hosting an event called the Abyssea and Atma Axtravaganza. That sounds like a mouthful, but it's basically an overly complicated way of saying "Players are getting a bunch of free stuff."

That's right, players are getting all three of the Abyssea battle area expansions. (To jog your memory, those are "Vision of Abyssea,” “Scars of Abyssea,” and “Heroes of Abyssea.”)There is a catch though: To be eligible, you must have purchased the “Rise of the Zilart” and “Wings of the Goddess” expansion packs and must have hit level 30 in at least one job. So get your level-grinding boots waxed.

Additionally, Square Enix is handing out some nifty items that might come in handy in those new areas. For example, players will receive eleven of the most popular types of atma, a Lunar Abyssite, 100,000 Cruor, and an increase to initial Traverser Stone Stocks.

The event has already begun, and it will carry on until October 11. So get your hands on some free expansions while you still can.
