EVE Online hosts its most expensive war ever
Two days ago, the pilots of EVE took to the distant, dead end sector of B-R5RB and engaged in the most expensive EVE Online war in mmo history. The reason for this war? Inter-stellar real estate.
The 21-hour long battle took place as a result of a simple missed bill payment from the coalition, H A V O C, leaving their space-province open to anyone who could muscle their way in, and there were plenty of takers. Over 2,800 occupied B-R5RB and waged war, with many more sitting out on the cusp, spectating and documenting the carnage.
The battle stated off as a show of force between the rpg's major factions, but quickly escalated, and once the squads introduced their Titan-class vessels, it all spiraled out of control.
75 Titans were lost in the battle, which was estimated to have cost between $300,000 and $330,000. 59 N3 and Pandemic Legion Titans were lost and the victors; a combination of CFC and RUS forces lost 16 Titans of their own. The Pandemic Legion, a mercenary force, largely affiliated with the N3 have now gone into hiding, and the CFC are thought to be continuing their assault, picking off the N3 while they are weakened.
The Titans involved were thought to have cost from $3,000, all the way up to $6,000 per craft, some taking years to save up for and all taking literally months to build.
Although it was the most expensive war in EVE Online, the largest ever recorded actually featured over 4,000 combatants.
