DUST 514 merges with EVE Online, made free for PS3 owners
“By uniting DUST 514 and EVE Online on the same single-shard server, CCP has accomplished something unprecedented in videogame history: a single persistent online universe of incredible depth and scale that bridges the PC and console platforms in real time. Furthermore, this marks the first time two games from different genres, a space combat simulator and a first-person shooter, have been linked together into one, massive online experience,” said the developer for both games, CCP.
CCP also confirmed that DUST 514 will be free to download and play for anyone with a PlayStation 3 on release. Gamers have the option to purchase the DUST 514 Mercenary Pack, which grants special in-game items, 40,000 game currency Aurum, and closed beta access – which amounts to one full week until closed beta ends and open beta begins on January 22.
A word of caution though to closed beta fans: DUST mercenaries will see their accounts reset when open beta hits. It will be the final one though, said CCP. The developer added that future updates will focus on deeper integration between their new MMO shooter and their flagship space sandbox rpg game.
