Elder Scrolls Online (TESO) is a fantasy MMORPG, developed by ZeniMax and published by Bethesda. Elder Scrolls fans always suspected there is an Elder Scrolls Online RPG under development but ZeniMax and Bethesda kept quiet for 5 years. The development for Elder Scrolls Online started in 2007. The official announcement was in 2012. Contrary to some beliefs, Elder Scrolls Online will not be Elder Scrolls VI or a Skyrim continuation. Or to put in another words, Elder Scrolls Online is not to Elder Scrolls series what World of Warcraft is to original Warcraft. Elder Scrolls Online development team is led by none other than Matt Firror, the co-producer of Dark Age of Camelot.
Elder Scrolls Online is set in Elder Scrolls world but it doesn’t have anything to do with the single player games. There are familiar characters and places but the story is brand new. Elder Scrolls Online takes place in a time when Molag Bal, evil god of destruction, is planning a most twisted scheme to destroy Nirn (the fictional Elder Scrolls planet). World destruction would be enough to keep players busy but, Elder Scrolls Online developers thought that’s not enough. Three factions fight to take over the Imperial City. Players must decide where they stand and which alliance deserves their help. The Daggerfall Covenant is the union of Orcs, Redguards and Bretons under the rulership of King Emeric. Orcs are fighters and talented crafters. Bretons master the magic arts. Redguards are unmatched warriors. Nords, Dark Elves and Argonians form the Ebonheart Pact. Queen Ayrenn founded the Aldmeri Dominion by bringing together High Elves, Wood Elves and Khajits. Players will choose one of the 9 races to create their Elder Scrolls Online RPG character.
The 3 Elder Scrolls Online alliances will take part in massive PvP encounters. One interesting thing about The Elder Scrolls Online is that there will be only one game server. This means that all players share the same world. There will be instanced areas for group play but, Elder Scrolls Online will keep the open world, go anywhere and do anything features. When making a MMORPG, all companies try to make their game appealing to a large playerbase. Those unfamiliar with Elder Scrolls series can still enjoy Elder Scrolls Online because there are no major lore connections. Elder Scrolls Online will probably be a dream come true for veteran Elder Scrolls fans and hopefully a quality MMO experience for new players.
