DotA 2 - The International 2014 announced
Anyone who watched the recent mmo documentary, Free to Play understands the gravity of The International - Valve's official DotA 2 tournament. Known for record breaking rewards, worldwide attendance, cult, crowd followings and the birthplace of many DotA 2 traditions, The International is the plenipotentiary, when it comes to MOBA rpg warefare.
This year's International DotA 2 tournament has been slated for July 18th and will host the World's finest in a four day duel, for an expectantly monstrous prize pot, at the KeyArena in Seattle.
Tickets are expected to go on sale this week on April 4th across a total of 3 tiers; General Admission, Floor Seated and VIP, costing $99, $199 and $499 respectively. The first two tiers are pretty self explanatory, but if you're willing to splash out for the VIP package, you'll not only be treated to a priority service with seating, but also granted access to the initial playoffs, from July 8th to to July 13th, VIP meet and greets with the pro's and access to the exclusive after party.
Regardless of your ticket tier, you'll have all four days at your disposal.
Valve haven't unveiled a great deal about who will be playing, but they have described the selection process on the announcement page.
"This year there will be 11 teams invited directly as well as four Regional Qualifiers taking place May 12th through the 25th. The winner of each Qualifier will receive an invitation, with the four runner-ups competing in Seattle for the final spot."
This is the forth year that Valve have hosted the tournament, but the first year since DotA 2 was officially launched and has always awarded at least $1,000,000 to the victor.
