Dofus movie releasing in 2015
The Dofus movie everyone's been waiting for is coming out next year. Ankama -- the maker of Dofus and WAKFU mmo games -- has signed a partnership with Gebeke Films to distribute the first Dofus animated feature "Dofus - Book 1: Julith".
That's the good news. The bad news is the Dofus movie release has only been confirmed for distribution in France. No word yet on whether a US version will be released, which is giving fans of Dofus and its sister game Wakfu a serious case of sad face.
There's a glimmer of hope though that a subtitled version might reach the US shores, if only because of the developer's strategy of using the film as a "gateway" to the online rpg, which we believe includes potential US fans.
"Dofus – Book 1: Julith is the next stage in our transmedia strategy. The Dofus adventure, which started over 10 years ago with the online game, is about to enter a whole new dimension with cinema," said Olivier Comte, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Ankama Group.
"This first movie is accessible to everyone, making it a great gateway into our world. Newcomers are sure to be charmed by the beautiful landscapes, the rich detail of a magical world, and the funny, endearing characters, whilst existing fans will be excited to rediscover a familiar universe and spot characters they know well on-screen. This will be a chance for them to learn more about Dofus and enhance their experience of it."
Dofus - Book 1: Julith is entirely produced in France, and will use a combination of traditional animation and vector rendering. The film will also feature "brightly colored visuals in an enchanting world, a storyline that works on several levels, and a lively mixture of comedy, action and adventure."
