Play Darkfall: Unholy Wars for Free May 1-5
Players of the Darkfall: Unholy Wars PvP-centric mmorpg are in for a treat as the game is set to celebrate its first anniversary. In addition, players can play Darkfall: Unholy Wars free from May 1st through May 5th. This will surely allow new players to dip their toes into the bloody waters and give the game a try.
However, that's not all that's planned as the devs have posted, "We have organized an extended anniversary party weekend between May 1st and May 5th. During these days everyone is invited to play Darkfall Unholy Wars for free – whether you are a returning player who wants to experience our new features or someone who has never tried it before. New players will benefit from the mentor system, learning all about Darkfall Unholy Wars with the help of the veterans. And our veterans will be able to spot raw talent to recruit to their clans. To get you started we will gift you with Double Prowess points during the whole event. Moreover, we have arranged a series of dynamic happenings that will start with a Treasure Hunt event and will continue at a later date with GM controlled monsters on the spot."
There are other updates to the mmo as well. An armor dye system has been added as well as changes to map features, such as changing the fog of war and allowing players to search for specific items, such as monsters, banks, clan holdings, and vendors. One of the most interesting features for Darkfall: Unholy Wars is the introduction of the mentor system. This allows experienced players to sign up as mentors and then help train inexperienced players who agree to become their apprentice. Mentors are rewarded by gaining a percentage of the prowess earned by their apprentices. When the relationship is over, the mentor is rated by the apprentice. Mentors that regularly get low scores will be blocked from mentoring players in the future.
The mentor system is a good design decision, especially for a PvP game like Darkfall: Unholy Wars. Many players are intimidated when entering PvP, but having someone help guide them will make for a stronger game and community. The free five day window to play the game will also bring in new blood to sample what the game has to offer. I've always been a big fan of GM controlled events, to it will be interesting to see what monsters will be used to keep the players on their toes.
