The Dark Souls 2 closed beta lines up demanding trials for hardcore action rpg fans starting October 5.

As early as September 5, registration details, teasers and updates will be unveiled on the Dark Souls 2 website and social channels, particularly its Facebook page.

Dark Souls 2 is the sequel to the brutally engrossing Dark Souls action rpg game, whose death-filled dungeon crawler challenges made it a cult hit among the hardcore and more masochistic gamer crowds.

MMO fans who have been spoiled by easy-mode adventures should steel themselves if they plan on surviving the punishing ordeals set for the Dark Souls 2 closed beta.

"The Dark Souls 2 closed beta will delve into one of the most treacherous areas of the Dark Souls 2 world; players will not only get an opportunity to explore an entirely new area of the game, but also experience overwhelming enemy encounters, diabolical challenges and the unrelenting difficulty that only the developers at FromSoftware can deliver."

Dark Souls 2 is scheduled to launch in Europe and Australasia in March 2014 on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft PC.

But the October 5 closed beta will be limited first to the PS3 fans from North America and Europe, with the closed beta presumably expanding to the other platforms at a later date.
