Update - Command and Conquer Cancelled
The upcoming MMORTS had only just announced its beta launch, and less than 24 hours later, we have received the sad news that Command and Conquer has been cancelled. The Generals successor was slated for a beta launch on November 25th, with a full launch on February 24th, but the 4 month gap is unfortunately just too far for the grandaddy of strategies to bridge.
The news comes as a result of their developer, Victory Games announcing their shutdown this afternoon, not long after announcing the launch news. Seemingly the Victory Games team is disbanding due to negative feedback during testing that had implied the game would receive an unpopular reception upon launch.
"Part of being in a creative team is the understanding that not all of your choices are going to work out. In this case, we shifted the game away from campaign mode and built an economy-based, multiplayer experience. Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play,"
Alpha purchasers will be receiving a full refund over the next 10 days.
Although a mixture of comments had been made about the game during testing, the overall feedback for Command and Conquer had appeared mostly positive from the competitive players, with the gamers hoping for a "Generals 2" being the ones who were more disappointed with the changes. Either way, the game was very much complete and will hopefully be picked up, or a workaround is established to get the MMO back on track...anyone for a Westwood Studios Revival?
