SOE brings PlanetSide 2 and DCUO to PS4
Sony Online Entertainment has been a major player in the MMO market ever since they took full control of development of the incredibly influential EverQuest back in 1999. Now, they've got their sights on bringing massively multiplayer online experiences to the next generation of home consoles.
In the words of SOE President John Smedley, "Players are evolving and want a variety of ways to access and play games. Our goal is to deliver epic gaming experiences that players crave while harnessing the awesome power and technology of this incredible new platform. We are thrilled to bring two of our most popular free-to-play games to PS4."
Both games will continue SOE's tradition of offering free-to-play payment options complete with microtransaction stores, alongside the more traditional monthly fee model. Essentially, players get to choose how they want to pay. It's a philosophy SOE has dubbed "Free to Play. Your Way."
SOE's Senior Vice President over Global Sales and Marketing, Laura Naviaux, explained why these two MMOs are great choices for Sony's upcoming console. "DCUO was the first MMO available for PlayStation 3, and its thriving community is proof that we can create an exciting and robust console experience for players. Players have been asking for PlanetSide 2 to be playable on consoles, and PS4 is the ideal platform to showcase the game's beauty, depth and frenetic open world combat."
SOE tells us we can expect both of these titles to land on PS4 by the end of the year.
