John Smedley addresses the PlanetSide 2 subscription changes - synchronized SOE currency?
John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment, has taken to Reddit to address some of the fallout that came with the PlanetSide 2 subscription changes.
At the moment, premium subscribers to the mmofps get 500 Station Cash per month, to spend or save as they please. However, SOE have planned to change the premium allowance, seemingly for the better, but it's left a lot of premium members feeling a little sour.
From February 3rd, instead of gaining 500 SC a month, players will get to buy any item of their choice, up to the value of a whopping 2000 SC. This, at first, sounds like an incredible boost in value. The caveat, however, is that the reward is no longer stackable. The 500 SC goes straight into your in-game purse, and can therefore be saved up, month to month, along with the rest of your SC. The 2000 SC voucher, on the other hand, can't be saved, and is limited to 1 item only, regardless of cost, which seriously affects how players spend their credit.
Many PlanetSide 2 players have already bought-in for 2014, and are upset that they weren't consulted on how their money would be spent. SC has also became much more limited in the past year, and judging by players' spending trends, many suspect the change has been made to force players to buy in-game currency.
MMO mastermind, John Smedley has taken to the Reddit forums to try and dispel some of the woes.
"We are discussing the feedback we've been getting and we are making some decisions regarding this today. Particularly around Player Studio items (yeah that was a bad idea) and we're talking about bundles as well. I promise that we are listening."
Smedley went on to hint that a large reason behind the change is to synchronize currency across all SOE games, something that has never before been revealed by anyone at SOE.
