Firefall PvP to be suspended for major rework
Bad news Firefall PvP fans: The frustratingly flawed feature will soon be taken offline for a total revamp.
The Firefall PvP system has been through the ringer, undergoing major changes since launch and gaining a lot of flak to the point where now only less than 3% of Firefall players participate in Jetball.
So the developers manned up and admitted that the PvP system is not working, and "at some near future point" will be shut off the whole PvP aspect of the free mmofps game.
Removing PvP and going back to the drawing boards is understandable and practical, but pretty drastic. MMORPG games are known to just bear through the growing pains of their PvP systems, and simply pour out fixes until it gets to a decent and balanced state. In the case of Firefall, it seems the PvP system is so fundamentally flawed that such minor tweaks won't be enough.
Developers also reasoned that when PvP is suspended, they will be able to rethink the system and also redirect more resources to improving content for the overwhelmingly more popular PvE portion of the game.
"PvP has suffered as our focus has had to focus on the popular PvE part of our game. People want more content, fewer bugs, and more polish on these world systems," said Red 5 Studios CEO and Chief Creative Officer Mark Kern.
What do you think about the impending Firefall PvP suspension? Was it the right call?
