Overview

Borderlands 2 is a role playing shooter game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The developers categorized Borderlands 2 as a role playing shooter because it has rpg specific character development. Borderlands 2 is the first sequel to the original Borderlands, released in 2009. Borderlands 2 introduces 4 new characters (vault hunters). They are on a quest to save Pandora from the Hyperion Corporation, led by Jack, a brilliant villain. Jack’s plan is to unleash “the Warrior” upon Pandora. The new vault hunters will be aided by characters from the first Borderlands game. Borderlands 2 has a co-op feature that allows players to team up. Borderlands 2 runs on a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3.

There are four Borderlands 2 playable characters: Axton, Zero, Salvador and Maya. Each character corresponds to a certain class. Zero is an assassin. He has the ability to deceive his foes and vanish. The assassin skill tree has 3 branches: sniping, cunning and bloodshed. Axton is the commando Borderland 2 class. He can use a scorpio turret to aoe his opponents. Axton’s skill trees are: guerilla, gunpowder and survival. Salvador is the nutty gunzerker. He can use 2 guns. His talent trees are: gunlust, rampage and brawn. Maya is the Borderlands 2 female character. She is a siren and can get rid of her enemies by teleporting them to different dimensions. Just like the other Borderland 2 classes she also has 3 skill trees: motion, harmony and cataclysm. Each class has 46 skill points to invest in its talent trees. Players can max out a talent tree or distribute points evenly. It’s totally up to them. Handsome Jack is the main Borderlands 2 boss. He is not a playable character. Quests are given by NPCs or bounty boards. When a quest is completed, characters gain XP, money and all sorts of items. When characters level up they also get skill points.

Although it supports multiplayer mode, Borderlands 2 is not really a fps mmo. Players can form groups of maximum 4 members. Compared to the first Borderlands game, Borderlands 2 has a superior AI system. Just like players, mobs can now help each other and engage in all kinds of actions to make gameplay more difficult. Borderlands 2 has a wide selection of customizable weapons. Borderlands 2 can be played on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Borderlands 2 gameplay time is somewhere around 30 hours. Players won’t get bored and will be tempted to replay the game with a different character or make different decisions. Borderlands 2 received good ratings from professional gaming publications.
