Overview

BioShock Infinite is the action-packed third installment of the BioShock franchise developed by Irrational Games. The game features a single player mode so no MMOFPS action. The gameplay is similar to previous BioShock games but stands alone in both story and location. Players take on the persona of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman who has been held hostage since childhood on the floating air-city of Columbia, in the year 1912. Once there, Booker becomes embroiled in a mounting civil war between the Founders, racist rulers of the city commanded by Zachary Hale Comstock, and the rebelling Vox Populi, who are under the leadership of Daisy Fitzroy. However, all is not as simple as it initially appears as Booker and Elizabeth forge deeper into the escalating conflict.

The world of BioShock Infinite in its visual glory and detail  is simply mesmerizing and serves as the centerpiece of the game. The air-city of Columbia is a living, breathing entity that players will want to fully explore marveling as the various blocks and shops drift through the air. You'll know that you're not in Kansas anymore as you listen to a barbershop quartet sing "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. The richly detailed storyline touches on many topics that will have the players pondering long after the game is completed: religion, rebellion, patriotism, love, and especially racism. Discovered audio recordings help expound the storyline by revealing details of past events. The immersive storyline, coupled with the dazzling elegance of the early 20th century architecture and style, help fashion a unique steampunk-style that stands out from other games in our MMO FPS list.

While the player can only carry two weapons at a time for use in combat, other items are available to gain powers and abilities. Vigors grant magical powers ranging from lobbing fireballs to having swarms of crows kill your foes. Vigors can be upgraded to provide additional benefits. Gear can be worn that will further enhance your powers such as pants that help your reload faster. Worn gear also changes your appearance so you can look especially dapper as you gun down your foes. All of these choices allow for customization of how you wish to fight, not to mention what powers and abilities work well with others. Players will quickly find that some attacks work better or worse on certain enemies. To help you along in your quest, Elizabeth can open up tears in space to provide support ranging from supplies to physical changes to the battlefield itself. BioShock Infinite adds another wrinkle to combat through the Sky-Lines, the metal rails throughout Columbia originally meant for shipping. Players can zoom around on the Sky-Lines to fight enemies from different angles and to outmaneuver the bad guys. Three downloadable content expansions have been announced for those who wish to spend more time in the gilded world of BioShock Infinite.
