Need for Speed: Shift developers announce World of Speed
World of Tanks, World of Warcraft, World of Warplanes, World of Darkness, and now, another "World of" title hits the headlines. The "World of..." section of the mmorpg library gets ever fuller, as a new racing mmo, World of Speed is announced.
As far as gaming pedigree goes, the Need for Speed series has been one of the longest running, one of most successful, and arguably one of the most enjoyable titles in the gaming pitlanes. Now, the makers of the critically acclaimed Need for Speed: Shift are taking on the mmo market, and have announced a new free to play racing title for you to test out your skills.
Online multiplayer racing games have been a tough market to tackle; from basic multiplayer features like downloadable ghosts and online lap-times from the early days of Gran Turismo and Metropolis Street Racer, games developers have struggled to make truly massive, multiplayer racing games.
Slightly Mad Studios are hoping to put an end to that with World of Speed. With a complex and involving score system, allowing for team play and strategies to racing archetypes, similar to the classic mmorpg class system, you'll be drifting, double clutching and fishtailing with a full feeling of mmo involvement in the upcoming racer.
World of Speed is scheduled for launch at some point in 2014, and is set to be a free to play, downloadable, PC title at present.
We'll be keeping an eye on this one, so stay tuned to mmo-play.com as more is revealed.
