The free to play mmo publisher Aeria Games is bringing the horror FPS installment F.E.A.R. Online stateside.

The F.E.A.R. Online US launch is seen to continue the gruesome shooter action that has made 2005 original and subsequent sequels infamous, while adding the massively competitive features found in the MMO genre.

Developers said F.E.A.R. Online will focus on several team combat modes spanning more than ten maps designed to make even the most hardcore thriller and horror fans squirm in their seats.

“F.E.A.R. Online will bring back the tense, heart-pounding action that the series is known for and make it accessible to a huge online community of competitive players," said Tom Nichols, Vice President of PC Games, Aeria Games.

The F.E.A.R. Online franchise centers around the American Special Forces team called First Encounter Assault Recon that is tasked to purge the world of supernatural threats.

For F.E.A.R. Online specifically, the story "will deliver hardcore multiplayer shooting action while furthering the dark and ominous story surrounding Alma Wade."

The game is being developed by Korea-based Inplay Interactive. It is currently holding a closed beta. Like most Aeria Games titles, it will also operate on a free to download and free to play model.
