Excalibur Online's US and Europe release has been made possible through a newly struck partnership between R2Games and Beijing Elex, the latter of which developed and released the game earlier for the Asian region.
The cooperation and investment between the two companies marks the highest licensing cost in acquiring a mobile game in China, a press release noted.
Excalibur Online currently has 1.7 million monthly active users in the Asia-Pacific region, an impressive number that should have helped convince the Western developer R2Games to bring over the medieval-themed title to the US and Europe.
R2Games has been growing its stable of rpg games online with the likes of Wartune, Crystal Saga, Yitien and Eternal Saga already under its publishing umbrella.
Excalibur Online adds a medieval flavor to R2Games line-up mix. Developers have described the game as an action sidescroller mmorpg set in the realm of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, offering a combination of mmorpg and classic beat 'em up features.
Players can choose from three classes -- wizards, warriors and assassins -- and explore a vast knights-and-magic world.
No date has been set for the release, but Excalibur Online has been confirmed to hit for iOS and Android on tablet or smartphone.
