Blizzard announce new game?
"They’re not your traditional heroes. They are survivors. They are fighters. They are Outcasts!"
Here at mmo-play, we've approached every press release and "insider tip" today with an air of caution; April Fool's day has always been a minefield of fake gaming announcements, parody websites and general mischief. Some, however, are simply too good to resist.
Today's April fool's crown has to be handed to the mmo realm's court jesters, over at Blizzard, for their "announcement" of a venture into the fighting games genre. The Blizzard Outcasts: Vengeance of the Vanquished reveal today was disregarded from the outset, but its potential piqued many a gamer's interest.
The concept of the game is simple; while Heroes of the Storm takes your favorite characters, from all of your favorite mmo games, and pits them in a MOBA duel for supremacy, Blizzard Outcasts takes Blizzard's less successful characters of StarCraft, World of Warcraft and Diablo and places them in head to head battles to the death, Mortal Kombat style.
With "Finish Her!" and "Banality!" slogans galore, it almost looks more viable than some of the arcade fighters of the 1990's, and would have probably made it onto the likes of Ed Boon's desk, had this game been "revealed" a decade sooner.
In a self-written Q&A session, Blizzard confirm their intent with an incredibly convincing statement on the Blizzard Outcasts microsite.
"I have no idea why you would doubt us, but yes, we are indeed making this game. For realsies."
Despite this being a lovingly crafted joke, would you like to see a Blizzard fighter in the future? Be sure to check out the Blizzard Outcasts homepage and let us know your thoughts.
