Engage in epic duels with War of Omens, the free browser mmo developed by Fifth Column Games. This fantasy-themed Trading Card Game (TCG) offers a few twists upon the standard gameplay mechanics. Players battle against an AI or one another by constructing decks that are associated with one of three factions. The Vespitole, who have risen from merchants to rulers of an empire, use a balanced mix of cards. The Daramek have always used animals in order to survive, and their cards reflect this mentality by using many beasts to attack and relying upon animal sacrifices to power their moves. The Metris are the shadowy denizens of the world, such as spies, thieves, and assassins. Their cards use control and manipulation to use the enemy's cards against them.
Unlike other TCG browser games, War of Omens offers a great deal of flexibility with their cards and decks. Each player is represented by a hero, with each faction having three heroes apiece. Each hero has their own unique characteristic, such as generating a specific resource every turn. The goal is to defeat the opposing hero by bringing them down to zero health. To do this, players play cards from their decks, but the mechanics are unique in this game.
As play begins in War of Omens, players need to purchase cards that they wish to use from their bank. Players automatically have cards that give gold when played. When the player amasses enough gold, they can purchase the card and put it into play. Once a card has been purchased or even destroyed, it then goes into the player's inventory. The inventory is then shuffled and these cards may now appear in the player's hand as the game progresses. The beginning stages of a battle will see mostly money cards appearing in the player's hand, but the composition will eventually change to encompass the cards that have been bought and played.
There are four resources in War of Omens: gold, apples (health), skulls (attack), and magic (can be used as any resource). Many cards generate resources every turn for the player, and individual cards can have special traits, such as automatically defending or making an attack when given an apple resource. Players can use skills to attack the opposing hero or any cards that he currently has in play. Apples can be used to heal a player's own cards or his hero. Every battle rewards the player with silver and experience for his hero. Heroes can level and become more powerful.
Players can purchase new cards by buying boosters with silver or cash transactions. When purchasing a booster, the player is given a choice of one of three different cards, which is then added to their deck. If a player already has the card, picking that card again will add xp to the particular card. When a card gains enough xp, the player will gain a new copy of the card that is one gold cheaper to play. Each card can be advanced twice in this manner.
War of Omens is one of the recent trend of TCG free browser games that have come onto the market recently. However, its unique gameplay mechanics make it stand out from the pack. Between battles, you can switch between decks and heroes as you wish. Deceptively simple, but with a tremendous amount of strategy, this TCG will have you fine-tuning your decks to unlock the best winning strategy.
