Travian Celebrates Nine Years

Travian is a browser game that's managed to build a cult following. In fact, its follow-up, Travians, earned a place on our list of games that you might not have heard of but should be playing. So it might surprise you that the game is officially nine years old.

That's right, Travian has made it to its ninth birthday. But it's more than just party hats and streamers for Travian Games GmbH. Nope, they're creating a whole birthday world for their game.

"There will be a birthday world," said Game Director Eckart Foos. "The special thing is, apart from many other surprises, that there will be a prolonged settling in period, thus making the entrance into the game easier and establishing a balance between players with different experience levels. Also we will give away Travian gold for our birthday!"

In addition to all this, players have the chance to get their hands on the valuable Travian Amulet. Foos explains: "But the Travian amulet is not for sale – it can exclusively be won. The much sought-after collectors item will be raffled in all 50 Travian countries."

Over 125 million players have enjoyed Travian through the years, which can be played in a browser window.
