Starpires, developed and published by Bad Pug Games, is a free MMORTS with a sci fi theme. Starpires mixes turn based features with MMO elements. Players enjoy strategic battles and city development along with exciting PvP battles. There are many of those who wish to build a Starpires empire but only a few will succeed. Players have to take down other enemy players and all sorts of NPC pirates. A good Starpires empire leader has to build a strong and powerful fleet but also meet the demands of the civilian population. Resource management is another Starpires important aspect. Players can form alliances and declare war on other Starpires alliances.
A Starpires galactic empire is not limited to a single planet. Starpires has a colonize feature that allows players to conquer other planets. Expanding a Starpires empire is a good strategy. Before colonizing a new planet, players must take into consideration the necessary force to defend it against enemy attacks. Defense is just as important as offense. There are different types of planets. Starpires planets have the same functionality as buildings. The main difference between Starpires planets and buildings in other strategy free MMO games is that Starpires planets can be conquered from other players or bought at the Starpires market. Urban planets are some sort of housing structures. Urban planets don’t produce resources but house population. People living in a Starpires empire pay taxes. If people are in a good mood they will go on vacation on tourism planets. These types of Starpires planets are another source of Starpires money. Research planets provide technological progress and improvements. Supply planets give military troops but only one type of troops at a time. More troops are acquired from Starpires military market. There are infantry troops and also all kinds of ships (carriers, fighters, heavy cruisers, etc).
Turn based strategy means that players build or perform other Starpires activities in turns. All players begin with 20 turns and gain more as they advance. A Starpires turn is roughly the same thing as a day in other browser RTS games. Each turn players receive the daily resource income but also have to pay the daily maintenance costs. Income and maintenance costs are directly proportional. A Starpires empire with many planets produces more resources and money but it’s also more expensive to maintain. The attack menu displays available options for players that wish to PvP or attack NPC space pirates. These pirates are hostile NPCs and can attack a player’s empire. There are 2 types of Starpires attacks against human players: invade or send guerilla forces. It’s a good idea to send spies to gather info before initiating an attack. Players can also establish diplomatic treaties. Starpires is a game that requires players to team up and work together.
