RuneScape's Old School server hits 1 million players
In February this year, by popular demand, Jagex launched RuneScape Old School; a server that lets you play a 2007 version of RuneScape in all its retro goodness. Old School starts the game's development from scratch, with community-voted updates, allowing it to evolve differently from the RuneScape mainstream, and even feature player-made content. The Old School server came to fruition after almost 450,000 players petitioned to bring it back, in a Jagex-instigated survey, only 50,000 short of Jagex's highest target that would have triggered them to set up a dedicated development team for the MMORPG throwback.
Within the year, Old School RuneScape has accrued over 1 million players. The game itself is a fantastic hit of nostalgia and really takes you back to its simplistic, browser-based roots.
Phil Mansell, Executive Producer of the MMO has posted his approval in Jagex's God Wars Dungeon announcement:
"Seeing RuneScape Old School hit the million player mark so soon after launch is a great milestone for the game"
God Wars was one of the aforementioned updates, voted in by the Runescape community, and will feature 4 new bosses; K'Ril Tsutsaroth, Commander Zilyana, General Graardor and Kree'Arra, who you can defeat to gain access to Legendary Godswords, fabled to be the most powerful sword in the game, and some unique Armor.
"It is the ultimate game of seeking treasure or die trying – something RuneScape has grown famous for."
