PoxNora is a turn-based online strategy game with collectible card game or CCG elements mixed in. It is a free to play, no download mmorpg. Players build a deck of cards called Battlegroups which contain 30 rune cards of spells, relics, equipment and champions. Each of these rune cards require a certain amount of Nora magic energy to be cast on the a battlefield. Casting a champion rune card, for example, summons the champion to a square-tiled map where he will be able to move around and attempt to destroy the other player’s shrine to achieve victory. Of course, the opponent can cast his or her own champions, as well as place relics or use equipment to help his or her champions prevail. As a hybrid of CCG and turn-based strategy games, PoxNora offers the tactical challenges of both genres – the deck-building consistency and synergy usually required of CCG games, as well as the situational awareness and chess-like maneuvering of turn-based strategy games.
PoxNora expansions are released on a more frequent basis than most other Browser Games, but these function more as patches with bonus content such as a handful of new runes. Collecting ever more powerful runes is at the heart of power progression in PoxNora, so the constant introduction of new runes to the mix pushes players to keep improving their Battlegroups. There are eight factions to choose from, and a player who builds his or her Battlegroup around a specific faction will receive combat bonuses. A recent addition to the game is a team mode, which pairs up two players against two other players, with a few tweaks on how Nora energy is gained. There is also a theme deck mode. PoxNora displays leaderboards on its main website, which shows updated rankings of top 10 players, team players and guilds, which should give you that extra fame and glory upon mastering the game.
PoxNora follows the typical MMO cash shop model of selling some one-time use item boosts – like adding champion points which can be spent to improve a champion’s abilities and make winning battles easier – as well as special runes that can be valuable trading commodity for other stuff you might need. Despite the existence of some powerful cash shop boosts, PoxNora can be enjoyed entirely as a free-to-play browser game. Great Battlegroup-building skills, smart play and constant practice will still prove to be a superior strategy for winning matches.
