Ikariam is a free to play MMORTS from portal publishers, GameForge. Ikariam is based around Greek Mythology, delivering a unique story-driven experience combined with top quality browser graphics and enough unique features to please even the most hardcore of RTS fans.
You begin your journey in Ikariam with a tiny plot of land and practically no resources. If you want to grow your land into a thriving city you will need to assign your workers to collect some of the available resources, such as, Building Materials, Wine, Marble, Crystal Glass and Sulphur. Each material is used for a different purpose, so smart players will assign their workers where they're needed most. This is quite a fresh approach to the RTS genre as the majority of games just require you to construct a building, the worker system featured in Ikariam provides far more control over your resource income.
Another great aspect to Ikariam is the player trade system. This is also something else the majority of RTS games ignore, forcing players to trade between NPC cities instead of each other. Players can begin trading with other players once they've constructed a port and designed trade routes. You can then try to trade resources with other players, but you need to make sure your diplomacy skills are sharp as not all players are short on the same resources.
Ikariam also includes a intuitive research system, giving players the opportunity to invest time and resources into unlocking various new technologies. There's a huge number of research options available, from upgrading your buildings and troops to inventing devastating vehicles and weaponry. Skilled tacticians will want to research every aspect possible to give them more options, both at home, and on the battlefield.
Ikariam is host to a large array of other exciting features such as the adviser system. Throughout the game there are 4 advisers placed at the top of your screen, with each adviser providing advice on different aspects of game play, such as military, diplomacy and resource gathering. This works like a permanent tutorial system providing loads of useful information at the push of a button.
