Humanity has taken to the clouds after a terrible catastrophe and battles are fought from floating islands in FreeSky 2 Online, the free browser game developed by IGG. Players are Skydukes in this steampunk-themed game whose goal is to expand their influence from a small territory into a large empire. The player's home base is located on a floating island in the clouds and it is from there where he'll build his infrastructure, engage in diplomacy, trade with other players, and dispatch his fleets of airships to attack other territories or defend his own.
Gameplay in FreeSky 2 Online is similar to other 2D strategy games with the main differences being the island in the sky environment and an emphasis on not having to micromanage every detail allowing you to concentrate on the fun aspects of the game. There are three main resource in the game: Ore, Aerogel, and Gold. Ore is used for constructing airships and buildings. Gold is the standard trade currency for most transactions. Aerogel is an energy source and is used for many things from firing weapons to fueling your airships. Resources are automatically gathered in the game so players just have to collect them from the supply depot from time to time.
The player's home base is on their own personal cloud. Around this cloud is a Border in which the player can construct defensive measures such as flying boulders or air blasters. The player's buildings all have levels and higher levels will unlock more features. The buildings are level capped in relation to the control tower, which is accessed through the Border view. It is therefore imperative to keep your control tower upgraded as high as possible.
Airships are the focus of your attack and defense in FreeSky 2 Online. There are a number of different craft that a player can build and those designs can be upgraded. Players can equip their airships with multiple weapons, engines, armor, and accessories which can greatly change the capabilities of the aircraft. Players then take assemble fleets from the aircraft they've created and put them under the command of an captain. Captains increase in level and their abilities grow greater as they level. Players can then create a battle plan for each fleet detailing on how to attack and whom. Battles are turn based and are automatic so make sure your strategy is sound.
While FreeSky 2 Online is a free mmorts, there is a cash shop. Players can purchase bonuses to resource production, buy resources outright, buy gems to increase a captain's stats, or buy a truce card. A truce card allows your cloud not to be attacked for a certain time which can be handy as you can be attacked by other players when you're logged off. All in all, FreeSky 2 Online combines the elements of a strategy mmo with the steampunk-style of airship combat in the skies.
