Overview

Fallen London is a browser game set in an alternate Victorian London, it is developed and published by Failbetter Games. Players might know Fallen London by its older name Echo Bazaar, a game that was chosen from tons of other free browser games as the best browser title by many gaming publication including the Escapist. The story is unique and told in a humorous manner. Adventures take place in 1889 in London but not in the UK. London is, at the moment, relocated in a fictional setting: a massive cave known as Neath near the lake Unterzee. Life goes on as usual except for the fact that there is no natural sunlight and weird creatures roam the streets. Players are invited to step in this Fallen London and create their own adventure.

Gameplay is heavily focused on storytelling and personal player experience. Fallen London starts just like any other no download MMORPG with character creation. Players can select from male and female avatars, actually the choice is between lady and gentleman to keep in line with the game atmosphere. There is even the option to go incognito and not disclose your gender. Decisions and multiple choices are important game features. Fallen London has a system that keeps track of player’s decisions and builds game content based on previous selections. Characters are given alternatives and the choices they make count towards character development. For example, the first task is to escape from prison: you can choose to sneak out, go on a rampage and kill the guards or use your charms to persuade them to let you go. Qualities like Persuasion, Dangerous, Shadowy or Watchful are trained and upgraded based on choices. These qualities are similar to skills or attributes. Fallen London automatically selects new missions and quests that best fit your character’s qualities. At early levels there are a lot of quests available so you can change your mind and improve multiple qualities. Players can equip gear and use consumable items as well.

Professions are another way to customize Fallen London playable characters. There are 4 professions: Minor Poet, Informer, Thug and Pickpocket. Fallen London offers a solid single player experience but there also is content designed for multiplayer. From having your friends over for a dinner party to engaging in more challenging Fallen London activities, there are plenty of options for those that prefer the MMO experience. There is the option to link a Fallen London account with social network profiles for more social interaction options. Fallen London is free to play and uses microtransactions but it doesn’t have content or features that are restricted to premium players only.
